What are the Life Sciences?

[Natural Selection] has no vision, no foresight, no sight at all. If it can be said to play the role of watchmaker in nature, it is the blind watchmaker. - Richard Dawkins

The life sciences are, simply put, the study of all living things. From vegetative life to us Human beings, life science comprises all fields of study that involve the living world with few exceptions. The exceptions to this rule are ethology (the study of animal behavior) and psychology, which only fall under Life Sciences when clearly addressing a biological aspect. Fortuately, both of these topics are covered in our "Life On Earth" section.

As you may have expected, the lines of this section are only hazily drawn and Life Sciences is a heavilymulti-diciplinary field. The rapid development of biotechnology and the newest addition to Life Sciences, astrobiology, is only blurring this line further. For information regarding exobiology, astrobiology and life in space please browse our Astronomy section.

On Educated Earth you will find the latest information on the medical and biological frontiers via this section.

Needless to say, there is always something new to be learned in the Life Sciences.
