At first, I thought this video might be convenient for those who refuse to use mathematics to help themselves understand physics; however, electrons do not "decide" to do anything. They are not "aware" of anything, as if they possess a consciousness. These kinds of lectures only make things more confusing. Physics professors rarely assign personalities to particles. ![]() Posted by John Q. Public on September 6, 2007 at 12:12 pm
"What the bleep do we know?" is an interesting movie, but it is true that one must consider the source. It is an attempt to take such things as mysteries of quantum behavior and place it in a spiritual context. There is nothing inherently wrong with that. It becomes wrong when someone distorts the facts or otherwise uses the existence of these phenomena to push their own agendas. Posted by Tibor on October 24, 2011 at 7:45 pm
Thomas Young performed the first double slit experiment way back in 1803. Quantum physics is the physics of the atomic and subatomic particles - or the physics of the very, very small. The idea of wave particle duality originated in a debate over the nature of light and matter that dates back to the 17th century, when competing theories of light were proposed by Christiaan Huygens and Isaac Newton: light was thought either to consist of waves (Huygens) or of particles (Newton). Through the work of Max Planck, Albert Einstein, Louis de Broglie, Arthur Compton, Niels Bohr, and many others, current scientific theory holds that all particles also have a wave nature (and vice versa).
